One of things I do almost everyday is walk- and I try at least 2 times a day. I am lucky enough to live in a development where I am able to walk easily. I love walking because it is easy, affordable and convenient. There's no gym memberships or driving to my exercise destination. There's no competing with my peers about the best outfits and who can sweat the most. For me, personally, this is the best exercise.
Simply, I put on my walking shoes and I am out the door, in the fresh air.
A recent report from experts at the Mayo Clinic suggests that taking a regular brisk walk can be beneficial in more ways than one.
Walking can help you:
- maintain a healthy weight
- prevent or manage chronic diseases (heart disease, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes)
- make your bones and muscles stronger
- improve your mood
- improve your balance
- improve your coordination
The Mayo Clinic also stated that the faster, further, and more frequent you walk, the greater the benefits you can achieve.
Here's a thought for the new year ahead. Make it a goal to walk more. Forget the gym membership, which will be very easily forgotten by the beginning of February anyways :)
