This position probably looks familiar to you. You drop your head to check your instagram, to message in your whatsapp group, and to update your facebook status. Then you text back a few of your friends. Its never ending. Even my 5 year old, if given the opportunity has endless things he could use on my cell phone.
When we use our mobile phones and drop our head like to this to use our phone, we are causing forward head posture. For every inch your head is forward, you are making your head and neck carry an additional 60 lbs of weight (normally our head and neck support 10 to 12 lbs). Additionally, We are also creating extra muscle spasms and tension in our upper back, neck and shoulder area. Rounding our shoulders gives us the slouched look and its not a good thing for our posture at all. You also cannot breathe optimally in this position. You are literally cutting off your lungs ability to expand, thus making your heart work harder.
So check your posture next time you take out your cell phone.
