Recently my sister mentioned to me that she was doing coconut oil pulling-basically she was taking a small amount of raw coconut oil and swishing around in your mouth for 10 minutes.
A few pointers:
- Use a raw, cold pressed organic coconut oil. Coconut oil is awesome to use because it is antimicrobal and anti fungal in nature.
- Use 1 tablespoon of coconut oil and swish it between your teeth for about 10-20 minutes
- Great to do in the shower
- After you are done, swish your mouth with water.
- After that, brush your teeth.
This practice has many health benefits. It removes bacteria in the mouth and helps prevent plaque cavities and gingivitis. It also whitens teeth and improves bad breath. It can help heal bleeding gums and helps to detox the body. It has also shown to support normal kidney function, boost the immune system, and help fight inflammation in the body. Great for cleansing the mouth.
Many natural health practitioners recommend this practice and they believe that coconut oil contains lauric acid, which is an anti-microbial agent that can help prevent tooth decay and therefore making it beneficial for oral health. This ancient practice of oil pulling dates back many thousands of years to Ayurvedic medicine in India.
I am not saying that you should replace your dentist by doing this. No Way ! This is one more thing you can do for greater overall cleansing.
